The George

A historical fact of The George is that novelist George Orwell is laid to rest in the cemetery of All Saints' Church, situated right behind the pub.

Orwell famously wrote an essay called The Moon Under Water, where he describes in detail his ideal public house. We adopted some of these ideas when Oak Taverns opened the pub in 2019. Have you spotted any yet?
