Warm Welcome at The George
OUR TRADITIONAL PUB
Relax in the welcoming ambiance of our classic tavern. Situated in Sutton Courtenay, we provide a cosy setting, delightful beverages, and mouthwatering pop-up street cuisine.
George Orwell at
The George
A historical fact of The George is that novelist George Orwell is laid to rest in the cemetery of All Saints' Church, situated right behind the pub.
Orwell famously wrote an essay called The Moon Under Water, where he describes in detail his ideal public house. We adopted some of these ideas when Oak Taverns opened the pub in 2019. Have you spotted any yet?

Did You Know...
The George pub dates back to the 1500's, and our earliest photo is this image of The George Inn from 1890.

DOG FRIENDLY
We’re proud to be dog-friendly and we firmly believe that dogs contribute to the unique ambiance of a traditional pub. So bring your beloved furry companion along for you to enjoy a refreshing pint, soak in the warm pub atmosphere, and make it a memorable outing for all.
